West Warwick Pride is a grassroot effort that first began in 2022 to celebrate and make space for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families in the town of West Warwick. The West Warwick Pride planning committee consists of several community organizations working together to celebrate the diversity of West Warwick Residents of all ages by providing fun and resources. This years pride planning committee was formed by The West Warwick HEZ backbone, West Warwick Public Library, Thundermist, West Warwick Prevention Coalition, Greater Providence PFLAG, and the West Warwick Gender Sexuality Alliance.
The event consisted of 25 resource tables providing information on services and promoting programs that support the LGBTQIA+ community. There were 19 artist vendors, a face painter, and a photobooth also at the event. The event had a series of workshops such as a discussion around the services that Pflag provides, a tarot workshop to teach residents how to do tarot readings, a drag story time event, and a drag bingo event. People were also encouraged to sign our banner with the first 50 receiving a free hot dog from the food truck Wally’s Weiner Wagon. The event also included a sensory room for people who may be overstimulated from the event to use.
